Donate With Dignity: Handsome Brook Farms Nourishes NYC

In spring of 2023, Handsome Brook Farms (HBF) began discussions with Rethink Food and One Love Community Fridge about donating eggs to both NYC-based nonprofits. Rethink Food creates delicious and nutritious meals with excess, donated ingredients for food insecure NYC residents. One Love Community Fridge picks up and delivers donated food and meals to community fridges across New York City. 

HBF started donating eggs to both organizations in July 2023, and kicked off the donations with 'Upcycling Nutritious Food in NYC'—an event in Brooklyn that sparked remarkable opportunities for community engagement. 

From July onwards, a pallet of eggs (900 dozen) have been delivered directly to the Rethink Food team in lower Manhattan on a biweekly basis. From Rethink’s headquarters, volunteers from One Love Community Fridge pick up eggs to supply community fridges across Brooklyn. Rethink Food transforms these eggs into delicious meals, spreading nourishment across every NYC borough.

HBF's donation count in New York City has soared past 10,000 eggs, reaching a staggering 20,088 eggs. That's 16,740 meals in the hands of food insecure New Yorkers. These partnerships aren’t just numbers; they’re about responsible businesses like HBF joining forces with community heroes to confront hunger, illustrating that collaborative efforts can alleviate food insecurity in New York City.
