Handsome Brook Farms, a certified B Corp™, is the nation's leading producer of organic pasture raised eggs. Founded in upstate New York with five hens, Handsome Brook has grown into the largest producer of organic pasture raised eggs in the country, with partner farms in 10 states. Handsome Brook Farms is dedicated to acting handsomely - from treating farmers, animals, and land with the utmost respect, to helping consumers access a clean, responsibly-raised source of protein that they know they can trust - from coop to carton.
Handsome Brook Farms is dedicated to advancing farm practices that ensure the highest level of animal welfare. Third-party verification through the USDA Organic Program, as well as American Humane, and Certified Humane Farm Animal Care, ensures consumers receive eggs laid by hens with access to pasture, fresh forage, and organic feed.
Certified B Corp
In March 2021, HBF achieved B Corp certification with a score of 81 points.
Cost Share
In April 2021, HBF launched its Farmer Cost-Share program, providing $0.5 million for on-farm improvements to support more than 60 farm families.
Regenerative Egg Farming Project
In November 2021, HBF was awarded a $340k USDA Conservation Innovation Grant for the Regenerative Egg Farming Project (REFP), focusing on improving soil health and biodiversity, water quality, bird health, and farm profitability, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Climate Smart Organic Egg Project
In August 2023, HBF was awarded a $3.6 million USDA Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities Grant for the Climate Smart Organic Egg Project to support small and underserved farmers, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve soil health, and expand climate-smart egg marketing efforts.
Re-certified B Corp
The only thing better than being a certified B-Corp, is being awarded the distinction again. This time, increasing HBF's score to 99 points and including partners, The Farmer’s Hen and HBF Development.
Regenerative Egg Farming Project
The Regenerative Egg Farming Project focuses on the impact of layer hens on soil health, biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, water quality, hen health, and farm profitability.
Climate Smart Organic Egg Project
The Climate Smart Organic Egg Project supports small and underserved farmers, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, improves soil health, and expands climate-smart egg marketing efforts.
